Thinking about "torpedoing" a project?

Thinking about "torpedoing" a project?

Before you do, remember that many individuals have spent countless hours working on it and have become emotionally attached.

Of course, as a leader, you have the right and authority to cancel a project, but if you need to do so, show empathy and understanding for the individuals who have been "babying" it. And don't be surprised if they give you some blowback the next time you launch a new one.

Business decisions you make today can have far-reaching and unintended consequences.

One of my clients worked for a very challenging manager. Some years later and while working in a different company, my client's old boss applied for a position on his team.

When his current manager asked him about his previous one, my client's response was, "if we hire him, I'll be looking to leave this team."

Guess who didn't get the job?

Your reputation precedes you, so if you torpedo a project, be careful how you do it, or you could be the one in front of the torpedo the next time.
